"We can stand affliction better than we can prosperity, for in prosperity we
forget God."

Dwight L. Moody

Faithful Friend,

There are many families in which the faith has been passed down from generation to generation for up to 1,500 years, but when the current believers die off, it is sadly the end of the line.

Without a real intervention, the future members of many families will not know Jesus.

If you truly love God, you will not allow that to happen without doing everything in your power to prevent it.

Three times Jesus asked Peter, "Do you love me" and each time, when Peter said that he did, Jesus told him, "Feed my lambs" or "Feed my sheep."
The proof that we truly love God is a passion to feed his lambs, feed his sheep. The lambs are the children and teenagers, the sheep are the adults.
Nothing is more important to Jesus than helping people to be saved for eternal life.

Jesus was so distressed when people didn't open their hearts to the Gospel,
that He wept over Jerusalem.

The same Jesus, who wept over Jerusalem desires to raise up people with a passion for 'saving souls' today.

Those who truly love Jesus will respond.

The famous evangelist Rick Warren tells the story of his father's death in 1999.  His father, Jimmy, was terminally ill with cancer and the family were around the bed.
One night towards the end, he attempted to get out of bed.  He was far too weak to succeed.  But when he continued to try, Rick's wife asked Jimmy what he was doing.
He replied,  "Got to save one more for Jesus! Got to save one more for Jesus! Got to save one more for Jesus!
He began to repeat that phrase over and over.  During the next hour, he said the phrase probably a hundred times. ³Got to save one more for Jesus!²
Rick says, "As I sat by his bed with tears flowing down my cheeks, I bowed my head to thank God for my dad¹s faith.

"At that moment Dad reached out and placed his frail hand on my head and said, as if commissioning me, ³Save one more for Jesus! Save one more for Jesus!²

There and then Rick decided to make that the theme of the rest of his life.
If you truly love God, you too will have a passionate desire to 'save souls'.
Rick Warren says, "If you want to be used by God, you must care about what God cares about: what He cares about most is the redemption of the people He made. He wants His lost children found! Nothing matters more to God; the Cross proves that. I pray that you will always be on the lookout to reach 'one more for Jesus'."
But if we are to succeed, we need to learn new ways of leading people to Jesus.

When I was growing up, we were just taught the basic prayers and brought to Church.  That often led to a very imperfect faith, to a situation where people didn't experience the transforming power of the Gospel, often indeed didn't have a living relationship with Jesus.
Today we absolutely need to lead people to a living relationship with Jesus, and to teach them how to draw strength from Him.

1st Step: Help people to express sorrow for sin, and to invite Jesus to live within them.

2nd Step:- Help them grow in their awareness of Jesus living within them.

3rd Step:-  Help them realise that with Jesus living within them, they are sons and daughters of the Father.

4th Step:- Teach them how to draw strength from Jesus who lives within them. To be able to say with St. Paul, I can do all things, and cope with all things, through Jesus who lives within me.

5th Step:- Teach them also how to draw strength from Jesus who goes before them; to be able to glimpse Jesus going before them, and to draw strength from Him.

6th Step:- Help them to come to so love God that in all things they will seek to do His will.

Those who are helped to take these steps, and only those, will have the type of relationship with Jesus, that will enable them to withstand the pressures in the modern world,

Yours, in Christ,

Thaddeus Doyle (Rev.)
